The first ice cream in Estonia, designed to support pregnancy childbirth.

Only available in the representative store located in Põhjala Tehas, Tallinn.

In cooperation with Gelato Ladies, we developed an ice cream specially designed for the end of pregnancy. Legend has it that it can even help start labor when the body and baby are ready…

Many women crave ice cream during pregnancy, it is refreshing and eating it often reminds beautiful moments. This ice cream is a great dessert for everyone. Because of the functional foods that this ice cream contains, it is a healthier option than regular sweets.

Functional foods have a potentially positive effect on health beyond basic nutrition. We have combined 4 flavours, each of which has its own special function to support the baby and the mother.

  • Chocolate - Studies have shown that 30g of chocolate per day during pregnancy may benefit the baby's growth and development. This is because of flavonols, which is a bioactive component, meaning a naturally occurring compound that affects processes within the body. The expectant mothers that eat 30g of chocolate per day, showed a significant improvement in uterine circulation, resulting in improved growth and development of the baby. Furthermore, it is packed with antioxidants.
  • Cinnamon - Cinnamon is known to manage blood sugar and can act as an opponent to the sugar in chocolate. Studies have shown that it manages the amount of glucose that enters the bloodstream by mimicking Insulin. However, it has many other benefits than managing blood sugar being yummy for example prebiotic, and antibacterial properties.
  • Dates - Dates have three main benefits: high fibre natural sugar source, as well as its natural property of aiding in the labour process. Studies have shown, that eating 6 dates per day in the last 4 weeks before the due date, can reduce the need for induction, and helps with the softening and the ripening of the cervix. But how can a fruit do this? One of the several reasons that dates can help reduce the time of labour is because they are high in sugar and carbohydrates, proteins, fatty acids, salt and minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which can prevent physical weakness. They also contain necessary and unnecessary fatty acids that can produce prostaglandins which play an important role in cervix ripening, acceleration of delivery progress, an increase of uterine contractions and inducing labour. Additionally, they are rich in antioxidants, which help the body from cell damage.
  • Chilli - Inducing labour with spicy food is one of the most common techniques used. That is why we choose chilli as our last ingredient. Many women report going into labour after eating a spicy curry or hot wings, such as Babyluv Care Co-Founder Carina reported herself. However, there is no evidence of such effects. A possible explanation is that spicy food irritates the bowl system, which is anatomically close to the uterus and therefore nudges the uterus to start labour. In Chinese medicine, spicy foods, such as chilli are also known as warming foods which are connected with improving the body and therefore uterine circulation.

  • Please note: Ice cream does not increase the risk of premature birth if it is eaten in moderate amounts even before the 37th week of pregnancy. If you are not supposed to go into labor naturally or have any concerns, please consult your midwife or gynaecologist.
